Step into the rhythm of the earth and the spirit of music with Ryan Meisel’s Spiritual Currents Creative Music Workshop. In this soulful gathering, experience a unique blend of traditional flutes, world drums, ukuleles, guitars, poems, and chants that flow together in harmony. Let the sounds carry you to a place of deep relaxation and creative play, as you explore new layers of expression through rhythm and melody.

Guided by musician and educator Ryan Meisel—whose expertise spans jazz and world music—you’ll engage in hands-on activities that bring out your own musical voice. Whether you’re new to music or a seasoned player, this workshop is a space to connect, learn, and create. Bring along your favorite flute, drum, ukulele, guitar, or simply your voice; rhythm instruments will be available for all to share.

Limited to 18 participants, this intimate experience offers flutes or drums for rental (with a $5 deposit, applicable toward the purchase of a flute or drum on event day). Depending on group size, the session will run 45 to 90 minutes.

Music and storytelling in a relaxed setting creates an enjoyable experience for all. Ryan Meisel’s Spiritual Currents blends Indigenous world music with his background in jazz. It honors his spiritual connection to nature and cultures from around the world. He performs Native American flutes, saxophones, and indigenous woodwinds (East Indian Bansuri, Lithuanian Skuduciai & Birbyne, Irish flutes & whistles, Slovakian Fujara, and Andean Pan Pipes).

Ryan Meisel kicks off his 2025 Wisconsin state park tour at Pike Lake in Hartford in conjunction with Discovery Day! Ryan will perform music from his newest recording Stone Songs, Wooden Voices & Water Dances, feature new instruments, and perform original music by world renown traditional flute artists. Upon completion of the performance Ryan will lead a drum circle for guests of the event to participate in.

Returning to Madison for another stint at Memorial Union’s Terrace, the Ryan Meisel Quartet with Doug Brown on Guitar, Matt Rodgers on bass, and Jake Polancich on Drums will be playing music from Ryan’s latest recordings “Jarred” “Ryan Meisel Plays the Blues” and “Spirit Dance.”

Ryan is releasing his newest “Spiritual Currents” album entitled Stone Songs, Wooden Voices & Water Dances. Featuring the performance live in studio at Audio For the Arts in Madison WI for this special concert series. Ryan will be playing Traditional North American Flutes, Slovakian Fujara, Lithuanian Birbyne, Irish wooden flute and low whistle, the Baroque Silver Flute, Soprano and Sopranino Saxophones.

Stretching boundaries, the band strives to capture the edginess of 80’s and 90’s rock and heavy metal, along with 70's jazz fusion. Playing through an FX processor gives Ryan the chance to create fresh sounds that fuse improvised jazz with electronic experimentation. This band will feature all original music and will be playing from their latest vinyl of the same name.

Playing through an FX processor gives him the chance to create fresh sounds that fuse improvised jazz with electronic experimentation. This album features all Meisel original compositions along with the musicianship of Madison's own Matt Rodgers on Bass and by way of Chicago, Kenny Reichert on guitar, and Milwaukee's Jake Polancich on drums.

This performance is a tribute to the Spiritual Music of John Coltrane and the profound impact it has had on my life. Whether it was a blues or a ballad, Coltrane shaped the world of Jazz with his technique and virtuosic musical concepts, later, taking inspiration from world religions and cultures. These songs, these improvisations, are my stories, and are my way of contributing to his legacy. I'd like to thank Chris, Isaiah, and Jake for contributing their music to this project and sharing in the creative process of making a live studio recording.
